At least three people including a member of the National Police Reserve were killed in two separate attacks carried out suspected al-Shabaab fighters in Mandera county near Kenya’s border with Somalia.
Several of suspected al-Shabaab fighters on Sunday attacked on a Matatu from Banisa heading to Mandera, killing tw passengers and injuring three others.
The attack took place between Olla and Lanfin, per local source.
A separate attack by suspected al-Shabaab fighters on a communication mast at a village town near the Kenya-Somalia border also claimed the life of a member of the National Police Reserve.
The gang struck on June 3 morning at Ogaralle Town attacking the local Safaricom communication mast.
The mast is at the Ogaralle primary school where it is being guarded by NPR who responded prompting a shootout.
No damage was reported on the mast they were targeting, officials said.
Tension remains high in the area amid fears the terrorists will come back to accomplish their mission.
Officials say there has been an increase in the sightings of al-Shabaab terrorists in the area amid fears they plan a major attack.
It also emerged the attackers stole two rifles belonging to two police officers who had been killed earlier on in an attack by the same gang near the Kenya-Somalia border in Mandera rose to two.
