An appeal court in Tanzania has resentenced seven Somali pirates who spent 12 years in custody.
The pirates were previously convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for attacking an oil exploration vessel in Tanzanian waters. According to the court ruling, the attack happened in the Indian Ocean near Mafia Island.
The convicted are Nur Adan Dhiblawe, Bashir Yusuf Roble, Abdiwahid M. Abdirahman, Farhan Ali Dahir, Muhsin Sheikh Haji, Omar Nur Ali, and Said Omar Mudey.
The appeal court has committed their sentences to three year in jail for the court said came as a result of good behaviour the convict showed during their 12 years of imprisonment.
