Somaliland forces will intensify attacks on Las-Anod town in the upcoming days, the region’s military spokesperson vowed Sunday.
Addressing the media, Abdi Abdullahi Hassan Abdi Dheere, the military spokesperson announced that the region will put the recent ceasefire announced by the region’s leader Muse Bihi to an end.
“Somaliland has been patient as long as possible. We will not post a small letter with lines on our website, but we will launch a well-planned military war against the aggressor. We have been trying to ease the situation for so long,” said Abdidere.
The remarks of the military spokesperson come hours after fierce fighting between Somaliland forces and armed locals in Las-Anod town in the Sool region.
Traditional leaders in the town have accused Somaliland of attacking the town with motor shells, destroying civilian residential houses.
According to the medics, Sunday fighting claimed at least the lives of 15 people and wounded others.
Las-Anod clashes which have been ongoing for more than a month reportedly displaced over 500,000 people.
