by CKG Editor

Somalia’s defence minister, Abdikadir Mohamed Noor congratulated the newly appointed Turkish Defence, Yaşar Güler hours after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan unveiled a new cabinet.

In a statement, Noor said that he is looking forward to working with the newly appointed Turkish Defense minister in further strengthening cooperation between the two countries in security and defence.

“I congratulate my counterpart, Mr Yaşar Güler, who was appointed as the Minister of National Defense of the friendly and brotherly Republic of Turkey in the Presidential Cabinet announced yesterday, and wish him success in this difficult task,” the minister said.

Somalia and Turkey have been enjoying close bilateral relations for over a decade now.

Turkey has been a reliable partner in rebuilding Somalia across all sectors and has been a crucial strategic partner in training and equipping Somali troops, particularly the Gorgor Commando Brigade of the national army and the Haramcad (Cheetah) Special Police Unit.

Turkey’s biggest overseas military training base, which was inaugurated in 2017, is located in Somalia and is also among the largest foreign-run military centres in the country.
