Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has today arrived in Adan Yabaal, a strategic district in the Middle Shabelle region barely four months after the government forces took the town from al-Shabaab.
The president is accompanied by ministers, MPs and security officials who hail from the region. The President is also accompanied by the country’s minister of Defense, Mohamed Abdikadir Nur and the Commander of the Somali Armed Forces, Odawa Yussuf Rage.
The delegation led by President Mohamud was welcomed by Hirshabelle leader, Ali Guudlawe and other officials from the Hirshabelle administration in Adan Yabaal town.
The President is expected to hold a meeting with the elders and locals in the town. President Mohamud is expected to formally announce the second phase of military operations against the Al-Shabaab in the Adan Yabal district.
The government forces liberated the town in December last year after Al-Shabaab vacated Adan Yabaal, about 245 kilometres north of the capital Mogadishu.
The town which is located near the border between Hiran and Middle Shabelle regions was under al-Shabaab since 2016.
