At least seven al-Shabaab fighters were killed and the group’s military base was destroyed following clashes with Somali military in central Somalia.
According to a statement by military, the forces launched operations to hunt down al-Shabaab fighters in villages in West of Buloburde Town of Hiran region.
The operations came barely a week after the country’s leadership announced the launch of the second phase of operations against al-Shabaab.
Somali forces backed by clan militias conducted operations to hunt down the group’s fighters in villages on the outskirts of Beledweyn town.
The allied forces succeeded to recapture several villages including Tarashante, Beerhana, and Elahele.
Hiiraan region governor, Ali Jeyte Osman who spoke to the media vowed that forces will start the operations to liberate all villages in the west Hiiraan region.
“Our forces successfully liberated all areas in southern Baledweyne along the Shabelle River. We have now launched the second phase of operations to liberate areas in the western part of the region,’ the governor said.
