Somali leaders have congratulated Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his re-election as the president of Turkey.
In a statement, Villa Somalia said President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud had acknowledged the long-standing history of mutual respect and cooperation between Somalia and Turkey.
The President emphasised the strong partnership that exists between the countries.
“In his congratulatory message, President Mohamud wished President Erdogan continued success during his new tenure, expressing confidence that under leadership, Turkey will continue to make significant strides in various aspects of development,” the statement reads in part.
In a separate statement, Somi Prime Minister, Hamze Abdi Barre hailed Erdogan’s victory, saying it demonstrates the Turkish people’s trust and support for the president’s vision of progress and development.
“Prime Minister Hamze Abdi Barre has sent a congratulatory message to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey following his successful re-election,” the OPM said in the statement.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Sunday won Turkey’s presidential election, defeating opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu in the runoff vote and stretching his rule into a third decade.
With almost all of the votes counted, Erdogan received 52.14 per cent of votes in the second round on Sunday, beating his challenger, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who won 47.86 per cent, according to the Supreme Election Council.
