At least 14 al-Shabaab fighters were killed and over a dozen others wounded following clashes with Somali forces in Southwest state.
According to military officials who spoke to the state owned media, Somali forces repelled an al-Shabaab attack on their military base in Makude village, about 7km south of Baidoa town.
The attack happened on Saturday midnight. There was no official statement from the government on the latest raid by the Al-Shabaab fighters who have engaged the security forces in near-daily attacks across the country.
The al-Shabaab, however, said its fighters killed 12 soldiers in the the latest attack.
The government forces have intensified their attacks against al-Shabab since President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud declared an all-out war against the militants last year.
The president has vowed that the military operations to flush out al-Shabab militants from their strongholds will be intensified to stop extortion of the Somali people and the spread of propaganda, intimidation and extremism in Somalia.
