Somali Foreign Minister Abshir Omar Jama (Huruse) has arrived in Jeddah, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the Arab League’s foreign ministers’ meeting.
The delegation led by the minister was received by Saudi officials at the airport.
The summit which is hosted by Saudi Arabia will commence on 17th of this month.
During the meeting, the minister will brief the participants of the summit about debt relief, the long-standing arms embargo on Somalia, and Somalia’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for 2025-2026.
The 32nd Arab League summit which will bring together the leaders of Arab countries will kick off on 19th of this month.
Saudi Arabia has invited Syrian President Bashar al-Assad received to this week’s Arab summit in Saudi Arabia, the first such invitation since the country’s war began.
The last Arab League summit Assad attended was in 2010 in Libya.
The pan-Arab body had suspended Damascus in November 2011 over its crackdown on protests which began earlier that year, and which spiralled into a war that has killed more than 500,000 people, displaced millions and battered the country’s infrastructure and industry.
