Several al-Shabaab fighters have been killed and a military base was destroyed in security operations conducted by Somali forces in the Middle Shabelle region.
According to military officials who spoke to the state media owned, the operations were jointly conducted by Danab and Gorgor forces in Runirgod town. The military also claimed to have recovered weapons from the base.
The development comes hours after two Al-Shabaab operatives surrendered to the Gorgor unit of the Somali National Army in the Galgadud region.
Hussein Maalin aka Dhagey surrendered in the Eldhere district in the Galgadud region.
He is thought to have led several Al-Shabaab attacks in the Galgadud region. He joined Al-Shabaab in the Jalalaqsi district of the Hiiraan region.
The second fighter identified as Alas Ibrahim Ahmed joined the group in the Eldheere district some years back.
