Somali police have received Armoured Fighting Vehicles (AFV) donated by the Italian government.
In an event held in Mogadishu, the country’s Chief of Police General Sulub Ahmed Firin was handed over the vehicles by the Italian Roberto Vechi.
The police chief thanked the Italian government for its commitment to support Somalia.
Gen. Sulub said the police will use the vehicles to maintain the security of the capital, Mogadishu as well as the fight against al-Shabaab.
Vechi affirmed Italy’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government of Somalia in its fight against the Al-Shabaab terror group.
The Minister of State Security Mohamed Ali Hagaa, who was also present at the function thanked the Italian government for supporting the Somali security forces in its efforts to restore peace in the country.
