Health officials in the Afmadow district are on high alert following a sudden onset of watery diarrhoea cases in the town.
According to medics, the outbreak of acute watery diarrhoea killed 17 people, including children.
Over 30 patients who presented watery diarrhoea and abdominal pain symptoms are admitted to the hospital where they are being treated and monitored.
While addressing the media in Kismayo, Jubbaland Deputy Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Mohamed Osman Jemis said a response team has been constituted to review the situation and come up with response activities.
Among the activities, he said is the collection of water samples from the affected areas and communal watering points for testing.
