Somali government has announced plans to enhance security of Somali capital, Mogadishu ahead of ahead of the Eid al-Fitr celebrations marking the end of the Ramadan. Eid al-Fitr will be celebrated this week in Somalia and many other Muslims countries across the world.
In a meeting attended by Governor of Banadir region, Police Chief, Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), the chairman of the military court, and other high-ranking officials.
During the meeting which chaired by Minister of State for Security, Mohamed Ali Hagaa discussed security reinforcement and implementation of the Arms Control Act in Mogadishu
The officials also agreed the government forces to launch security operation dubbed Ciltire in Mogadishu. The forces assigned to conduct the operations will actively collaborate with the security forces to ensure the success of the operation.
The operation’s success will be critical in ensuring a safer environment for the citizens of Mogadishu and fostering peace and stability in the region, according Benadir administration.
The development comes barely a week after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud announced plans to prohibit carrying heavy weapons in Mogadishu. President Mohamud also banned the importation of all types of military gear, from uniforms to boots to equipment.
