Al-Shabaab operative sentenced to five years in jail in Somaliland

A military court in Somaliland region in northern Somalia has sentence a convict to 9 years in jail for being member of al-Shabaab group.

According to a statement by the court, Faisal Ali Ibrahim, 42, was found guilty of recruiting fighters for the group within Somaliland.

\No further details given out by the court.  The convict has a month to appeal against the sentence.

Somaliland, a region in northern Somalia had declared to have seceded from Somalia in 1990 after the fall of the government led by the late Mohamed Siad Barre.

Despite the relative peace in the region, the International community did not recognize Somaliland.
